Newsom Urges Unity Amid Wildfire Crisis, Invites Trump to Witness Devastation

California Governor Gavin Newsom has extended an invitation to former President Donald Trump, urging him to visit Los Angeles County and witness firsthand the devastation caused by the wildfires currently ravaging the state.

In an open letter released on Friday, Newsom emphasized the importance of unity during times of crisis, calling for a collaborative effort to aid those affected by the destruction.

“In the spirit of this great country, we must avoid politicizing human tragedy or spreading misinformation from afar,” Newsom stated. “Hundreds of thousands of Americans displaced from their homes deserve to see leaders working together to ensure a swift recovery and rebuilding process.”

Newsom encouraged Trump to meet with residents impacted by the fires, acknowledge the destruction, and express gratitude to the firefighters and first responders risking their lives on the frontlines.

The invitation follows sharp criticism from Trump, who recently took to social media to hold Newsom responsible for the fires, suggesting the governor should step down.

“One of the most beautiful parts of the United States is being destroyed,” Trump wrote. “This is all Gavin Newsom’s fault, and he should resign.”

Trump and Newsom have clashed frequently in the past over wildfire management. In 2019, Trump criticized California’s forest management practices, arguing that better oversight could prevent such disasters.

“Every year, the same thing happens—fires rage and California burns. Then, the state comes to the federal government for money. No more. Get your act together, Governor,” Trump tweeted at the time.

Newsom’s invitation serves as an effort to bridge divides and focus on aiding communities affected by the ongoing crisis.
