Today, President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. approved enhanced disaster assistance for the State of California, increasing the level of Federal funding to support emergency work in response to wildfires and straight-line winds that began on January 7, 2025, and continue to impact the region.
The wildfires, fueled by prolonged drought conditions and strong winds, have caused widespread destruction across California. Thousands of acres of land have been scorched, homes and infrastructure severely damaged, and communities displaced. Emergency crews are working tirelessly to contain the fires and address the immediate needs of affected residents.

The President’s order raises Federal funds for debris removal and emergency protective measures, including direct Federal assistance, to 100% of total eligible costs. This increase applies for a 180-day period, chosen by the state, within the first 270 days following the start of the incident.

This decision underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to aiding California’s recovery efforts and addressing the devastating effects of natural disasters on local communities. By providing additional financial support, the administration aims to accelerate recovery and mitigate the long-term impact on affected areas.
