California wildfires: Actress Jamie Lee Curtis has sparked controversy following her remarks comparing the wildfire-stricken Pacific Palisades neighborhood in Los Angeles to the war-torn region of Gaza.
In a recent statement, Curtis described the devastation caused by the Palisades fire, which has reduced much of the area to ashes.
“I was born and raised in the City of Angels, and it feels like the entire city is on fire. The Pacific Palisades is devastated,” Curtis said. “My neighborhood is gone. Although my house is still standing for now, I live in a different canyon. The destruction here reminds me of places like Gaza, where tragic events have left communities in ruins.”
The comparison drew significant criticism on social media, with many questioning the appropriateness of likening the neighborhood’s destruction to a conflict zone.
The Palisades fire, which has scorched 22,660 acres as of Saturday morning, remains only 11% contained. Over 5,000 structures are reported to have been destroyed, with entire residential neighborhoods reduced to rubble.

On Friday night, the flames began spreading into the nearby areas of Mandeville Canyon and Brentwood. Brentwood, home to over 65,000 residents, is now under threat as firefighting efforts continue.
The situation remains dire as first responders work tirelessly to control the blaze and provide support to those affected.
